Endgame (Nagg & Nell)
Max Streicher
ARTWORK DESCRIPTION
Endgame (Nagg & Nell)
In an absurd scene, two huge inflatable clown heads are wedged between buildings. The striking image of these strange characters exudes something either zany or disturbing, depending on the viewer’s sensibilities. Endgame refers to Samuel Beckett’s play of the same title, in which the legless characters Nagg and Nell are stuck living in garbage cans. Somewhere between comedy and tragedy, Max Streicher’s clownish dead end evokes an oppressive apathy.
