THE ERA OF THE AMERICAN DREAM

JASMIN BILODEAU

ARTWORK DESCRIPTION

THE ERA OF THE AMERICAN DREAM

The spectral outline of a pioneer house stands in contrast with the urban landscape. This blurred sculpture creates an illusion of visual vibration, even a third dimension, though it is in fact flat and static. In a stark juxtaposition of form and materials, the pioneer log cabin is made of space-age aluminum, and appears tiny before the urban landscape surrounding it. The work pays tribute to the vernacular architecture of early settlers, celebrates our humble origins, and makes visible just how hazy our collective memory of the past may be.
