A monumental, stoic and unwavering figure rises up in the city like a heroine brandishing her weapons. The female effigy wears a work overall and carries a hammer, attributes of creative studio work. The Sculptor emphasizes the labor and technical know-how involved in sculptural practice. The self-represented artist asserts and highlights her status as an artist. She also pays tribute to the indisputable place of women in the field of public art.

Valérie Potvin lives and works between Quebec, Canada, and Germany. Her multidisciplinary practice consists of sculpture, public art and videos. Her works have been presented at the Musée national des beaux-arts du Québec, the SESC Pinheiros in São Paulo, Brazil, and the Cameron Art Museum, in Wilmington, North Carolina, USA.
